Parmigianino’s Schiava Turca at the Legion of Honor – San Francisco

Parmigianino’s Schiava Turca at the Legion of Honor – San Francisco

July 26, 2014 through October 5, 2014

– The Poetry of Parmigianino’s “Schiava Turca” celebrates the artist esteemed as one of the greatest of all sixteenth century Italian painters, especially praised for his portraits, particularly his, “Schiava Turca,” an exquisite depiction of a young woman, admired as an expression of ideal female beauty in the tradition of Leonardo’s, “Mona Lisa.”  An icon of the artist’s native city of Parma that rarely travels from its home at the Galleria Nazionale di Parma, this presentation at the Legion of Honor provides the unprecedented opportunity to experience this masterpiece for the first time in the United States and to explore fresh interpretations on the identity of the enigmatic subject who still remains a mystery.
